“The Last Poet Standing poetry competition is the cumulating production of the 2014 season. It will be a night of exciting, fast-paced, engaging and spontaneous fun,” said Sierra Leone of Oral Funk Poetry Productions. “Competitors will perform original work, giving the audience a unique and diverse experience. The show will include a melting pot of melodic musical vibes and authentic artistry mixed with synergetic Signature flavor.”

Philadelphia native Gregory Corbin Jr., known as Just Greg, is an award-winning international poet, motivational speaker, activist, teacher, humanitarian, philanthropist, and founder and executive director of the award-winning Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement. Corbin, a prominent community leader with more than 10 years classroom experience working with and mentoring youth, has performed from South Carolina to South Africa with such artists as India Arie, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Saul Williams and Sonia Sanchez. Corbin has discussed youth advocacy and empowerment on TED Talks, HBO, CNN, CSPAN and BET. He currently serves on the Mayors Commission for African America Males, along with the Poet Laureate and Youth Poet Laureate Commission. “When we invest in the voices of the young, we are in turn investing in the voices of ourselves and the future,” Corbin said. “Your voice is permission to be great, not your permission to be silent. We will change the world one breath at a time, one word at a time. We write life and live it into existence.”

As the head of The Mighty SoundChampz Crew, DJ Krate Digga uses jazz, funk, reggae and classical music influences to form new and interesting ways to listen to hip hop. Professionally trained in African and Caribbean percussion since the age of 8, he has been a DJ for more than 16 years.

The Signature is sponsored and supported by Wright State University, the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet, Signature Educational Solutions and DeLish Cafe Dayton.
