“The Signature: A Poetic Medley Show” Returns July 20
Dayton, July 2, 2012 – Oral Funk Poetry Productions will host the second show in its fifth season of “The Signature: A Poetic Medley Show” at The Loft Theatre, 126 N. Main St., from 9 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 20. A full bar in the lobby will open at 8:30 p.m. The show’s theme is Poetic Soul Fusion, and it will feature spoken word, dramatizations, live music, vocalists, visual arts and more.
Headlining the show will be The World Famous Tony Williams, a multi Grammy Award-winning R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer, and G.O.O.D Music affiliate. Williams’ voice is recognized on some of the most popular songs in hip-hop, as he’s performed alongside Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nas and Rick Ross. He recently won his fourth Grammy Award for his vocals on Kanye West’s “All Of the Lights.” His recently released debut album, King or the Fool, features John Legend and Raheem DeVaughn, as well as Kanye West on the hit single “Another You.” Williams is featured on all five of Kanye West’s solo albums, Jay-Z’s album The Blueprint 3 and MTV’s The Life & Rhymes of Kanye West, and he’s been the featured vocalist on six world tours with West.
“I do not want to be an international artist, I want to be a local artist all over the world,” Williams said. “I want to be connected so closely to my fans and their markets that they do not see themselves as privileged to see the ‘famous outsider’ coming in, but rather, that I’m privileged because I’m seen and treated like an artist performing in his own home town.”
Joining Williams will be international poet I Am Tasha Jones, Indiana’s 2008 Poet Laureate nominee and the youngest nominee in state history. She opened for Lauryn Hill’s Moving Target Tour and performed for Erykah Badu. Her writing infuses everyday life experiences with Scripture to create works that heal and empower.
Fyah’ Stahtahs, which has been performing throughout Southwest Ohio during the past year, will play live jazz, funk, R&B and neo-soul music. Columbus-based spoken word poet William Evans will emcee.
In addition to the show, Oral Funk Poetry Productions is working with several community youth organizations to organize a songwriters and song producers inspirational workshop. The event will allow young people to talk with Tony Williams and I Am Tasha Jones to learn about the music industry. The workshop is supported by the Ohio Arts Council, Signature Educational Solutions, Hope Road, the Human Race Theatre Company and OFP Productions.
“The Signature: A Poetic Medley Show” has earned a reputation across the Midwest for being edgy, thought provoking, groundbreaking, funny, engaging, sexy, diverse and spontaneous. Visit the newly redesigned website www.tripplecroxxent.com for more information and details.
