WILBERFORCE UNIVERSITY TO HOST A TWO-DAY EVENT
AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS LITERARY FESTIVAL
 
Words, Rhythms, And Colors:Embracing Our History and Culture
 
 
 
NATIONWIDE—Wilberforce University in collaboration with Just Us Books, Third World Press, and Third World Press Foundation will host Words, Rhythms, and Colors: Embracing Our History and Culture Authors and Publishers Literary Festival, Thursday and Friday, April 13-14, 2012 at Wilberforce University, 1055 North Bickett Road, Wilberforce, OH  45384. 
 
Through a series of workshops by renowned authors/educators/poets/activists Haki R. Madhubuti, Nikky Finney, Nnedi Okorafor, Quraysh Ali Lansana, Wade and Cheryl Hudson, Sandra Jackson-Opoku, jessica care moore, Rudine Sims Bishop and others, attendees will be engaged in matters of art, history and culture and how those components influence the creative process.  They will examine the preservation of culture through the inventive telling of all our stories. 
 
Friday’s “Celebration of Youth Creativity” is designed to engage young audiences in the process o writing for entertainment and social understanding and cultural enrichment.  Cost is $5 per student.  Students will be responsible for their own lunch.
 
On Saturday, authors will share their own work in Fiction and Poetry as well as offer strategies and techniques for writers in various genres.  Workshops include:  “The Art of Children’s Books and Literature” to “Steps to Getting Your Book Out of Your Head and onto the Page” to “A Guide to Poetry, Literature, and Social Justice in Classroom and Community,” and “What is a Poem and Other Poetic Musings.”  Haki R. Madhubuti and Nikky Finney will provide insight on “Speaking of Craft” in a special lunch session conversation.
 
Attendees will also be treated to readings by poets Nikky Finney and jessica Care moore—activism and awareness through spoken word and poetic form at its finest.
